ORBIS Ireland wants to thank all their supporters who, in 2009, donated vital funds, raised money through hosting an event or attended an event organised by ORBIS. Your efforts have given the precious gift of sight to so many people in the poorest regions of southern Ethiopia.  

The year started with a bang with AWAS hosting a ball at the Four Seasons Hotel in January, with all proceeds donated to ORBIS. AWAS generously covered all costs of the Ball and the evening raised an impressive €88,000. 

Over the past three years ORBIS has been fortunate to receive €200,000 per year from Irish Aid. These funds have been vital in funding our campaign in Ethiopia. Unfortunately, due to the current economic climate government funding may not be possible in 2010.

Thank you to everyone who pushed themselves to the limit and took part in various challenge events and marathons to raise money for ORBIS.  

ORBIS is very fortunate to have a number of individuals and companies who make regular donations to the cause. We are so grateful for the loyal support and commitment from all of these supporters.

Thanks to all the air stewards on Ryan Air flights who are committed to selling scratch cards, with proceeds coming to ORBIS Ireland and thank you to BrandForce who organise this initiative - together they raised €22,500 for ORBIS in 2009.  

This year the Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin and Belfast have been adding €1 or €1 to guest's bills for ORBIS. The staff and guests at the Fitzwilliam Hotels raised over €10,000 in 2009.  

Finally a big thank you to the 70 supporters who took to the streets of Addis Ababa in November to take part in the Great Ethiopian Run - a 10 km race at 10,000ft. Out of the 35,000 participants, we were delighted that ORBIS Ireland brought along the largest international contingent ever to take part in the Run... next year we hope to smash our own record and bring along 150 participants. The combined fundraising efforts of the participants raised a collosal €150,000.
