The Flying Eye Hospital, a one-of-a-kind DC-10 wide-body aircraft converted into an innovative teaching facility and ophthalmic surgical centre, will visit Addis Ababa airport from 8 October - 26 October to share critical sight-saving skills with the local eye care community.
This will be the fourth Flying Eye Hospital Programme in Addis Ababa (2003, 2005 and 2006). We will be supporting several in-country projects in addition to strengthening local advocacy efforts. In addition, the doors of the Flying Eye Hospital will be open to a number of guests around World Sight Day on Thursday 11 October. If you would be interested in visiting the "hospital with wings" please contact James at james.harold@ie.orbis.org.
Our programme will help support ORBIS’ partnerships at Gondar and Menelik II Hospital while expanding to include a new project partner, the “Korean Hospital”, with a focus on pediatric care and building on the prior impact of the Flying Eye Hospital.
In 2012 the Flying Eye Hospital will also visit the following countries:

You can help
The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital brings much needed ophthalmic training to developing countries around the world. Through this training, local doctors can begin treating people who would otherwise be blind for life. To keep the Flying Eye Hospital flying, please give generously. Your support means everything to those less fortunate.
